ITRI assisted Overseas Chinese University in implementing a private 5G network (powered by Saviah 5G Core network) and deployed the 5G VR Training System

Industry Background

Technical and vocational training often requires expensive equipment, dedicated instructors, consumables, and strict safety controls. For CNC machine operation training, students need hands-on practice, but physical training environments can be costly, limited in capacity, and difficult to scale.

As education moves toward immersive and digital learning, VR training has become a powerful tool for improving learning efficiency. However, multi-user VR training requires stable, high-bandwidth, optimized and low-latency connectivity to deliver a smooth and interactive learning experience.

Challenge

Overseas Chinese University needed a more scalable and cost-effective way to provide CNC machine operation training while improving student safety and learning efficiency.

The training system had to support more than 20 students learning simultaneously through VR courses, while allowing teachers to monitor and guide students’ operations in real time.

Solution

ITRI assisted Overseas Chinese University in implementing a private 5G network powered by Saviah 5GC and deploying a 5G VR Training System.

The solution integrates Askey’s 5G small cell with Saviah 5GC to provide the network foundation for immersive VR training. Through the 5G VR training system, students can learn CNC machine operations in a metaverse-based environment, reducing reliance on physical equipment, manpower, and consumables.
