Future NetworX and Saviah Unveil France’s VoNR-Enabled 5G Standalone Academic Lab

Future NetworX and Saviah Technologies proudly announce the deployment of France’s first academic 5G Standalone (SA) laboratory with native Voice over New Radio (VoNR) support, hosted at the IUT de Villetaneuse, Université Sorbonne Paris Nord.

This initiative marks a significant milestone in advanced 5G education, providing students and academic staff with access to a fully operational, end-to-end private 5G SA environment aligned with current 3GPP Release 15 and 16 standards.

The laboratory was deployed through a close collaboration between Future NetworX, a French telecom systems integrator based in Palaiseau, and Saviah Technologies Inc, a 5G core network software provider headquartered in Taiwan. The solution also integrates indoor gNodeB equipment supplied by Askey Computer.

A Full-Scale 5G Standalone Platform for Hands-On Education

Designed as a plug-and-play platform, the lab delivers a complete 5G SA ecosystem, including a commercial-grade 5G Core, VoNR-capable user equipment, and a centralized web-based management dashboard. The system enables real-world experimentation on key 5G functions such as voice services, quality of service management, and network configuration.

The platform was delivered, installed, and made operational in less than 72 hours, offering full autonomy for academic use without vendor lock-in.

“This laboratory goes far beyond simulation,” said Yamina Amzal, Head of the Telecommunications, Networks and Cybersecurity Department at Université Sorbonne Paris Nord. “It allows students and researchers to work on a real 5G network, understand end-to-end call flows, and gain practical exposure to technologies that are now being deployed in operational networks.”

Industrial-Grade 5G Core and VoNR Capability

“When building an advanced private 5G lab, VoNR was a key use case from day one,” said Abdelkhalek El Moukadim, CEO of Future NetworX. “While open-source cores such as free5GC are valuable testbeds, commercial deployments require performance, stability, and long-term support. Saviah’s 5G Core met these requirements and enabled us to deliver a fully functional VoNR-enabled 5G SA environment tailored for academic and technical use.”

By combining Future NetworX’s system integration expertise, Saviah’s commercial 5G Core, and Askey’s radio access technology, the partners delivered a robust, end-to-end private 5G solution suitable for advanced teaching and experimentation.
